Rusty Wier Health Update

Posted Tuesday, February 12, 2009 on his website - link
There have been frequent questions from everyone regarding Rusty's health. He continues to try to get out and see friends and has been working on two songs at a friend's studio in Austin whenever he can. Larry Joe Taylor gave Rusty an opportunity to perform and enjoy his recent cruise. "Coastin' & Cruisin' was a wonderful trip to the Caribbean islands of Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.  It did Rusty a world of good to share time with fellow musicians and fans. He is currently continuing chemotherapy. Link to Rusty Wier health update here

McKay Brothers, Texas Live Music

The McKay Brothers, fifth generation Texans, grew up in the hills of Bandera County. Music became an inescapable part of their early lives. Hollin recalls “we used to sit on the banks of the Nueces river with our uncle playing songs ranging from the Beatles to George Jones. Our uncle’s feelings about music shaped a lot of what we write about.“

While still in in their teens both brothers started playing professionally. Noel’s first experience began in the honky-tonks and dance halls around Bandera. Hollin, at age16, joined his brother, playing such colorful places as San Antonio biker bars and rustic dives. Since then the McKay Brothers have shared the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Charlie Robison and Robert Earl Keen.

Rusty Wier Bio Texas Live Music

Rusty Wier has always been the consummate entertainer.  He will engage you, charm you, make you think, and make you cry; but the “money-back guarantee” is … he will make you smile.

Rusty was born in Corpus Christi, but has called Austin, Texas home for many years.  At the age of three, while riding his imaginary horse in the aisles to the strains of an impromptu “William Tell Overture” from the piano player and laughter from the patrons of his dad’s restaurant in downtown Austin, Rusty discovered an ability to make people smile.  Growing up in a world of restaurants, nightclubs and hotels, he learned that no one was a stranger and the world was a stage - and for a $5.00 ticket he could dish out $50.00 worth of entertainment.

Davin James Texas Live Music

One night in 1995, Texas music legend, Gary P. Nunn was handed a cassette tape. "That really started my musical career", says the forty-two year old singer/guitar slinger, Davin James. Gary P. called a few days later and said he wanted to cut four songs from that tape. That tape wound up being Davin's first CD, "Making My Mark", best known for the song "Guadalupe Days" and "Back in the Swing". The latter landed in the movie "Happy Texas".

Micheal Laferty Texas Live Music

Micheal Laferty started writing and performing his own music as a teenager in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. In 1975 he began working full time as a road musician in the cocktail lounges and hotel chains up and down the West Coast. As the front man, bass guitarist, and resident songwriter, his tunes were always in the standard repertoire of every band with which he worked. Micheal's reputation as a songwriter and vocalist caught people's attention, and by 1976 several Pacific Northwest bands were covering his tunes.

The Dust Devils Texas Music

The Dust Devils Built around the award-winning, mature songwriting of Kevin Higgins, and representing Texas with their original southern-rockin', genre-bendin' “Farm-to-Market Rock'n'Roll” style of music, The Dust Devils once again state their independence from hype and trends. With the 2007 release of their third album, Change in the Weather, (Little Train Records), the Dust Devils combine diversity with raw talent, allowing them to move about freely on the musical landscape. Add to that the visual and musical  advantage of a male and female fronting the band, and you have a winning combination all the way around.

By 2003, the (previously-named) Cosmic Dust Devils had been kicking around Texas for a few years, with a handful of accolades and a self-titled CD under their belts.  The miles and low wages eventually took their toll, leaving the two original founders of the band, (Kevin Higgins and Barbara Malteze), no alternative but to disband the group and come up with a new plan. That plan included a new name...and Nashville.

John Arthur Martinez Texas Live Music

John Arthur Martinez bio: I'm one of the few in the world who can proudly say I make a living doing what I love the most. In my case, creating, performing and recording music are what I love the most. I accomplish this amazing feat with a cast of amazing fellow musicians surrounding the Austin, Texas music scene, including Chris Reeves on Tele and Spanish guitars, Ron Knuth on fiddle, mandolin and accordion, B.B. Morse on his upright bass (fondly named Matilda), Lynn Daniel, who platoons on upright and electric basses with B.B., Kevin Hall, one of the finest drummers in the world, Joe Guzman, a fine Latino/country/R and B drummer who now lives in the Seattle, Washington area and his accordion slinging brother Joel Guzman, who since his Grammies plays less and less with me, but nonetheless warrants mention here.

Gary P. Nunn Texas Live Music

Gary P. Nunn  Bio: Gary P. Nunn began his musical career as a 7th grader in a garage band in Brownfield, Texas, where he was an honor student and all-around athlete. Upon graduation from night school, he attended Texas Tech University and South Plains College while pursuing music on weekends playing with "The Fabulous Sparkles," a take-no-prisoners rock band that was the rage of West Texas during the sixties. In 1968 he transferred to the University of Texas at Austin immersing himself in the lively local music scene while studying pharmacy at UT. In 1972, Michael Martin Murphey, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Willie Nelson moved to Austin and a new Era in music was born. The movement was dubbed "Texas progressive," "outlaw music" among other monikers and Gary P. Nunn was right in the middle of it. At one time he was playing bass for Murphey, Walker and Nelson! For Murphy and Walker, he lead The Lost Gonzo Band who backed them up on stage and in the studio, and helped propel them to national notoriety. It was during this time that Nunn honed his songwriting skills composing tunes that were recorded by Nelson, Walker and Murphey, as well as Rosanne Cash, David Allen Coe and others, earning him several gold and platinum records for writing, publishing and performing.

Jon Wolfe Texas Live Music

Jon Wolfe bio: The best introduction to Jon Wolfe is the basic yet not so simple fact that he’s a country singer and songwriter. Country music, as it was, is and always should be, with boots firmly standing on the bedrock of tradition and an eye focused on taking it into the future. And that, as any fan of true country knows, is no simple proposition.
